The school also has a very well maintained oval, five separate upgraded sets of safe playground equipment, a shaded sand pit, basketball, netball, volleyball, korfball and bat tennis courts, an amphitheatre, a large pergola that offers a quiet shaded area for passive recreation and a canteen that operates five days a week for snacks and lunches. The school is also a Sunsmart School.
Our school is organised along traditional lines, including a diversity of grade structures. Our buildings provide flexibility to allow teachers to vary organisation to meet such needs as team teaching, flexible groupings, cross age tutoring and co-operative learning.

The School serves a developing community of young families with a wide multi-cultural influence. This has facilitated a variety of activities within the school and the community.

A high level of community acceptance, involvement, pride, mutual good will and co-operation exists. In many areas, the school provides important community links and a meeting place for families. Visitors to our school must sign in at the school office and wear a visitors badge.

Education at Melton West P.S. is a partnership involving parents, students and teachers. This is shown by programs such as Early Years and Bridging the Gap. Our main buildings contains 16 classrooms, an Art room, a room and a well resourced computer laboratory and well equipped Library.

A Music/ Multi -purpose room provides cover for PE sessions in hot or inclement weather as well as a meeting place for larger groups of students.

The gardens and grounds are being re-developed providing shade areas for active and passive play and sport facilities.
