John Fawkner College is a small school which offers a safe and supportive learning environment with a strong sense of community and belonging.

It is recognised for its innovative approaches to teaching and learning. The teachers have high expectations of all students and develop individualised programs to cater for individual needs, challenging students to achieve their full potential.

The focus at Years 7 and 8 is literacy, numeracy and developing as independent learners.

At Years 9 and 10 students are exposed to a broad selection of subjects which connect strongly to their interests and future goals.

Students in senior years receive extensive counselling before undertaking studies in VCE, VCAL or VET and are supported by study and exam skills workshops, study camps and after-school tutors.

Students are further extended through cultural and personal development programs including music classes, leadership opportunities, sports program, the visual and performing arts, city experience and the Personal and Social Learning Program.

We are proud of our uniform. John Fawkner College ensures uniform compliance by all students. In making the decision to enrol at the new College students and parents are agreeing to comply with the new uniform policy. Any variation to the official uniform items will not be tolerated by the College. The correct summer and winter uniforms must be worn during the year. Consequences for students not wearing the correct school uniform are: Parents contacted to bring correct uniform items to school; Students sent home to change after parent contact, Students provided tuition in a supervised timeout room, detentions issued.

The Curriculum at John Fawkner College has been extensively reviewed and restructured to ensure that the fundamental learning needs of all students are addressed. The College has a particular focus on ensuring that the Literacy and Numeracy standards are addressed and supported so as to provide all students a platform for deeper learning. The curriculum programs at Years 7 – 10 also offer the students a wide range of learning experiences so as to ensure that student interests are met in preparation for their studies in the Later Years.

At John Fawkner College students are also able to elect to undertake a Sports or Business focus as part of their studies. These two specialist study programs are geared towards students wishing to pursue pathways in either the Sports or Business industries. Both programs are supported by community partners so as to give students authentic learning opportunities and real life experiences.

Lessons are 72 minutes long to allow for deep learning with a variety of learning tasks and activities.

Soccer Academy

Soccer is a passion for many people in our local area and we have many talented soccer players attending JFC. Students are able to apply for the soccer academy, which trains with a professional coach, who is also a former Socceroo. Students train after school and their academic achievement and behaviour are paramount to their place in the academy. Strong links with Melbourne Victory Soccer Team sees 4 of their players mentor 20 of our students. Soccer Academy Scholarships are available. Please contact the college for an application form.

Netball Academy

An exciting addition to JFC in 2010 is the introduction of the Netball Academy. New facilities will be completed by mid-year to support an extensive netball program. Students will be supported by the Melbourne Vixions and various other professional netball players. Students train after school and their academic achievement and behaviour are paramount to their place in the academy. Netball Academy Scholarships are available. Duke Of Edinburgh's Award

All students are able to receive an internationally recognised award that values and celebrate the work of young people. The program is based on the individual. All year levels can apply to join the program which has 4 main components
1. Skills-developing a new skill
2. Service-giving back to the community
3. Physical Recreation-challenging yourself to be physically active
4. Adventurous Journey-An outdoor adventure that involves camping

Minter Ellison Law Firm Horizons Program and Internship

A unique program to John Fawkner College is the Minter Ellison Horizons program that sees year 9 students mentored for six months by a mentor from Minter Ellison Law Firm.

New Building-Language Centre

I am delighted to announce that on June 29th 2009 the Federal Minister of Education Julia Gillard announced that John Fawkner College was successful in its submission for the construction of a $1.97 million language centre. This new facility will replace a section of the school with a modern state of the art educational facility. The new building will be designed to support learning in the English, Literacy, LOTE and ESL areas. It will also provide modern information technology, audio visual and meetings rooms. One of the features will also be an open court yard learning space for students. John Fawkner College will be the only government secondary college in Moreland to have this facility. Construction of the new facility will commence over the next few months and will be completed by June 2010.

FIFA Standard Synthetic Soccer Field

To support our very successful Soccer academy a FIFA standard synthetic field was built in 2009. This facility hosts international games, and is unique facility for a school. Our students are very fortunate to have access to world class facility.

Upgraded Library

Our College Library is a place of busy work and a great resource and support for students. Students have access to new computers, the internet, printers and a wide range of texts during class, before and after school and in their lunch and study breaks.
Gymnasium and Performing Arts Centre

Our recently upgraded gymnasium and performing arts centre is a real hub of our school. Students use this impressive facility in their Physical Education lessons, Drama lessons and for lunch tiem and after school activities.
