Our Aim

Good News Lutheran School's aim is to provide a Christ centred education for all children who attend the school.

We aim to:

- Provide the child with a thorough grounding in the Christian faith, and effectively to relate this instruction to the life of the child.
- Provide a high standard of instruction in all key learning areas as required by the Department of School Education.
- Encourage in each child a feeling of self-worth, and respect for others.
- Encourage in each child a love of learning.
- Foster the God-given gifts of each child.

The concept for Good News Lutheran School began in 1992 as a result of the vision of members of the Lutheran congregations of Christ the Lord - Laverton and St. Philips - Werribee.

Discussions with neighbouring congregations resulted in the formation of a School Development Committee. Their objective was to ascertain the feasibility of a Lutheran Christian School in the outer western suburbs. This committee was joined by members of St. Matthew - Footscray and Martin Luther - Altona.

In 1994, 10 acres of land was purchased in Tarneit Road, Werribee. This site was chosen as it was in the main western growth corridor from Melbourne and had all available services and a pleasant outlook.


With the support and encouragement from the Lutheran Church of Australia, Government funding was applied for in 1995. Approval was granted for the opening of a Prep to year 6 single stream Christian School that opened in 1997.

After extensive consultations, Mr. Verne Ziersch was appointed as the school's architect, to design and draw plans for the Committee and the Wyndham City Council. Town planning approval was granted in February 1996.

In March 1996 the School Development Committee began operating as the Good News Lutheran School Council and school registration was issued soon afterwards.

- In 1998 a new classroom/administration building was added.
- In 2000 two new classrooms were added.
- In 2001 a new playground was erected.
- In 2006, 4 new classrooms, a toilet block and Church were added.
- In 2008, Administration block was refurbished
- In 2009, 6 new classrooms and a multi purpose room built to cater for expansion to secondary education in 2011

The Lord Jesus Christ is the cornerstone of our school and the reason for its existence. We proclaim His love and forgiveness, and seek to live under His guidance.

We believe that all children have God given gifts and talents. Our teachers are facilitators of a vibrant learning process which enables our children to strive toward their potential in the spiritual, intellectual, physical, cultural, social and emotional areas of their lives.

Good News was established and continues to provide a quality Christian education for members of its local congregations, and for those in the wider community who seek such an education.

We will promote values and standards in line with this Christian ethos with a commitment to providing a co-operative environment in which our children, teachers and parents are able to grow together.

Through God's Word children will learn about the relationship of God to all people and the relationship of His people to others.

Tuition fees are set each year and a current fee schedule can be requested by contacting the school

Tuition fees are payable at the beginning of each term in advance. The same fee applies for children at any grade from Prep to Year 6.

There are discounts available for tuition fees paid in advance and for siblings. Fourth and subsequent children do not pay tuition fees.

Withdrawal from the school:

Withdrawal from the School requires a minimum of one term's notice, except for students leaving at the end of Grade 6.


In cases where a notice of one term is not given, an amount equal to one term's tuition fees is required.

We believe that parental involvement greatly enriches a child's experience at school. It is our belief that a child's upbringing - academically, spiritually, socially and physically - is primarily the responsibility of parents. Schools exist to support parents in this important task. We encourage parents to take an active role in the school's educational programmes. To this end, it is expected that parents who enrol their children will:

- give open support to the ethos of the school
- encourage and assist their children in work set by the school for homework
- seek to ensure their children comply with the rules of the school, including behaviour in public while wearing the school uniform
- meet the agreed fees as required in advance

Parents are also encouraged to participate, where appropriate, in:

- the life and activities of the school community
- working and cleaning bees held during the year
- help with office work, excursions and/or other activities as required
